Veterinary Specialist Anaesthetist
Zara completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Science with honours from the University of Sydney in 1995. After spending two years in private mixed practice, she returned to the University at Camden to complete a one year internship in Anaesthesia and Critical Care and a ‘gap year’ performing the duties of an equine medicine and surgery resident. She then moved to the USA to complete a three year residency in Anaesthesia and Critical Patient Care at the University of California, Davis, staying on for a further two years as a junior faculty member. She gained specialist qualifications in 2002, becoming a Diplomate of the American Association of Veterinary Anesthesiologists. Since returning to Australia in 2004, she has worked as a private consultant and a Senior Registrar at the University of Sydney, where she taught the undergraduate anaesthesia course. She has also spent time working at The Royal Veterinary College, London.
Zara enjoys both teaching and clinical anaesthesia, and her outside interests include international travel and showjumping.
Dr Yvonne Van der Veek

Yvonne graduated from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and then moved to England for 3 years where she worked in general practice. She passed the National American Veterinary Licensing Examination in May 2003. Yvonne came to Australia in Feb 2004 and worked in general practice in the Blue Mountains. In May 2007, she joined the ACCES team at the VSC. She really enjoys Emergency medicine and is currently studying for her membership exam.
Yvonne lives in the Blue Mountains with her partner who is a fireman. They have a kelpie x called Bear (he is on the picture), 2 cats (Jip and Janneke) and 4 chooks. She loves the outdoors and regularly go canyoning, bushwalking and mountain-biking. Also she loves reading, going out for dinner and going to the movies.
Dr Duana McBride
BVSc
Duana graduated from The University of Sydney in 2004. She worked in a small animal practice on the Central Coast of NSW for 2 years, followed by a year as a locum veterinarian around Australia. As a locum she discovered her interest in emergency medicine and has joined the ACCES team in March 2008.
Duana takes her time to wind down by practicing yoga, dancing, swimming, and by spending time with her adorable kitten Miele.
