Dave graduated from the University of Sydney in 1995. He moved to Melbourne to work in small animal and equine practice for two years following graduation. After a brief stay in Sydney doing emergency shifts he moved to the United Kingdom where he locumed all over the country including working on the 2001 foot and mouth epidemic. In 2002 he moved back to Sydney to work at Seaforth Veterinary Hospital and in 2003 he achieved his membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Medicine of Dogs. In 2004/05, as a partner at Seaforth Veterinary Hospital, he completed a Diploma of Business Administration at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management. He also managed to qualify as a Triathlon Coach during this time. In 2005, Dave became a conference organizer and held the first conference in Lake Wanaka, New Zealand, which have continued successfully every year since then.

Dave felt the urge to get back into more veterinary study in 2006 when he sat his membership examination in Medicine of Cats. In 2007, he won selection to be the Practitioner in Residence at the University of Sydney where he worked in the University clinic, seeing the referral cases and teaching students. After this Dave knew he wanted to become a specialist one day and in 2008 he started his residency in Small Animal Medicine. During this time he spent time working at North Shore Veterinary Specialist Centre and some time at the University of California, Davis, in the Neurology Department.

Dave has now completed his residency training program and is preparing to sit for examination for Fellowship of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Internal Medicine. He has a keen interest in all aspects of small animal internal medicine, particularly endocrinology and cardiology.

When he is not at work, studying or looking after his kids, Dave likes to spend time surfing, on his mountain bike, or ideally, skiing down mountains.
