Veterinary Specialist Anaesthetist

Zara completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Science with honours from the University of Sydney in 1995. After spending two years in private mixed practice, she returned to the University at Camden to complete a one year internship in Anaesthesia and Critical Care and a ‘gap year’ performing the duties of an equine medicine and surgery resident. She then moved to the USA to complete a three year residency in Anaesthesia and Critical Patient Care at the University of California, Davis, staying on for a further two years as a junior faculty member. She gained specialist qualifications in 2002, becoming a Diplomate of the American Association of Veterinary Anesthesiologists. Since returning to Australia in 2004, she has worked as a private consultant and a Senior Registrar at the University of Sydney, where she taught the undergraduate anaesthesia course. She has also spent time working at The Royal Veterinary College, London.

Zara enjoys both teaching and clinical anaesthesia, and her outside interests include international travel and showjumping.
